WHAT IS A LIFE COACH?

A life coach is a professional who can help you make progress in your life and achieve your desired goals. Working with a life coach will make you feel as though the role of supportive best friend and trusted advisor have been wrapped into one. A life coach helps you to clearly see the kind of person you truly want to become and then they encourage you and walk with you on your journey to becoming that person.

WHO SHOULD CONSIDER WORKING WITH A LIFE COACH?

If you are someone who wants a better life for yourself than the one you are living today, then life coaching is for you. Life coaching clients are ambitious people who want to reach their goals in any area and are ready to take action now. If you are done waiting for a better life to magically manifest itself, you might want to speak to a life coach.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A LIFE COACH AND A THERAPIST?

To be clear, a life coach is not a therapist. There are some distinct differences which you should be aware of. Therapists tend to help people with mental and emotional well-being while life coaches tend to help people clarify and achieve goals. A therapist will help you to understand the negative impacts that past traumas may have on your current life and how to overcome them. A life coach will focus much more on your current life circumstances and how you can achieve greater success in whatever area you are focused on. A therapist can diagnose and treat a client from a healthcare perspective, but a life coach cannot give a diagnosis.

HOW CAN A LIFE COACH HELP YOU?

A life coach can help you with personal as well as professional issues. With any given goal or desire, a life coach will help you to analyze and understand your current circumstances, identify limiting beliefs and other obstacles you may need to overcome, and create a custom plan of action designed to help you achieve your goals.

HOW DOES LIFE COACHING WORK?

While the way you and your life coach will work together to help you achieve your goals varies, there is a general flow that you are likely to experience.

You will first work with your life coach to define your current circumstances as well as your vision for a better tomorrow. In order to do that your life coach will likely ask you questions like:

  • What is it that truly drives you?
  • What gets you up in the morning?
  • What brings you the most joy?
  • If you could have your ideal life, what would it look like?

After answering questions like these your life coach will work alongside you to help you identify limiting beliefs and any other obstacles that are between you and your desired outcome. They will help you to identify how these patterns have developed in your life and how you can move past them. They will then help you to set challenging but still achievable goals. The idea is to not settle for mediocrity in goal setting but at the same time you don’t want to set goals that you believe to be impossible. From there, your life coach will help keep you accountable to those goals as well as help you make adjustments along the way.
